Ok. Watched a movie a few weeks ago, and honestly, my excitement over it hasn't waned much.'
I went into Pacific Rim with some friends, for the purpose of socializing. I was expecting some good visuals, a nice fix of scifi, but not the story that it takes to hold my interest. Typically, I don't care for something if it doesn't have a strong story element I can latch onto. This is why I rarely watch tv, and always prefer games and forums with heavy story elements. I am happy to say I couldn't have been more wrong about the movie. I was left impressed. The story spans primarily over the end of what's called the Kaiju War, but it gives you an effective intro of the first twelve years without sacrificing a streamlined feel.
The story starts in 2013, with an attack by "The Trespasser." A giant monster. The first of many to follow. Appropriately, the name they are given, "Kaiju", means essentially Giant Monster in Japanese (if I'm remembering right.)
Jaegers (pronounced Yay-gers) were created to combat the threat, Jaeger is "Hunter" in German. That's fun.
Each Jaeger team has alot of personality behind it, which made me happy. A large cast of heroes. A Kaiju groupie, And the Norse God Heimdall turned Leader of the Jaeger command. That actor has an excellent voice.
Avoiding spoilers here, but I just wanted to say that I enjoyed the movie, and would recommend seeing it to everyone. The 3D was impressive as well. Not for things flying out of the screen at you, but because the fights had alot of foreground and depth detail.
