The Guntharian Species
Long ago, the Gunthars, a species of much like humans, walked all of the world. Then, through a dimensional gate, dragons came. The dragons chased the Gunthars to the ends of the world, killing almost all of them. Then the Gunthars sailed across a vast sea and found the continent of Belorath. They only exist in their descendants and fossils, but they left any a ruin and mystery.
Humani- Also known as Humans, they inhabit Belorath more numerously than any other of the sentient species. They are strong and resilient, but few excel at magic.
Evlorei- Known throughout Belorath as Elves. They look like humans, but most are shorter and slimmer. They are gifted in magic, but also enjoy fencing. Most live in the Yunita Wood, but some choose to live among humans.
Lilithu- Called vampires by the humans, they are the least populous of the Guntharian species. They were once humans, ones who practiced dark rituals and lived their fire in retrograde. Over generations, they became dependent on blood, and noticed that when they went in the sun, it burned their skin. They sneak into the houses of the humani at night, not killing their victims, but taking only what they need. If out in the sun for more than ten minutes, they die (they do not sparkle).
Having a common ancestor, hybrid offspring are possible, but uncommon. If either an Evlorei or a Lilithu mate with a Humani, the child will look Humani, but have an affinity to magic or an aversion to the sun, respectively. Evlorei and Lilithu hybrids are even more rare, and tend to take after their Evlorei parent.
Other Sentient Species
Dragons- After fleeing from Elibe, the dragons came to this world. They rule much of it, but choose to leave whatever land was across a seemingly endless sea to itself. However, there have been reports of strange ships landing in Calrice, leaving a few winged humans, then departing again.
Beastmen- This beast-like species developed separately from the Guntharian species. They look almost human, but sport pointed ears and a tail. They can be of the wolf, wildcat, eagle, or lizard origin, and fight by transforming into whatever beast their ancestors were.
Species and Classes
Humani cannot be shamans.
Evlorei cannot be brigands, knights, or troubadours.
Lilithu cannot be Acolytes, priests/clerics, or troubadours.
Dragons are manaketes, and fight by transforming with their dragonstones and using their claws, teeth, tail or breath.
Beastmen fight by transfoming into whatever beast they are (for example, a wolf beastman's call would be wolf).
Non- Playable, But Sentient, Species
Fairies- These wisp-like creatures, though small and humanoid in their anatomy, appear like nothing more than a glowing ball with wings. they occasionally follow travelers, giving assistance, but usually tend to stay within the great trees of Yunita Wood, associating with the Evlorei when necessary.
Spirits- Also known as The Whisperers, some say they are the imprints of expired sages, but other scholars will say they are entirely different entities. Sometimes called upon with magic, they usually dwell in a plane above mortal sight.
