Name: Alexandra Athen Species: Humani Class: Wyvern Rider Hair Color: Crimson Eye Color: Dark Brown Age: 26
Appearance: A young woman with a severe expression. Although not terribly tall, standing at 5’3” with her feet on the ground, Alexandra makes for a rather imposing figure on the back of a wyvern, where she is quite literally capable of looking down on people. Her crimson hair is something of a disaster; it's been chopped short so that it doesn’t get in her face when she’s in the air, with the actual look of it being quite clearly an afterthought.
She has a rather compact, muscular build, and is noticeably broad in the shoulders. Alexandra tans easily, though her typical garb means this usually only extends to her neck and up and her elbows down - and though she tans easily, she loses it just as quickly, revealing a much paler complexion if she ever stops spending much time out of the sun. Her body is riddled with thin scars, typically around four to seven inches long, with a particularly short one cut through the end of her left eyebrow.
Clothes: As someone who values practicality, Alexandra doesn’t bother with frilly clothes or dressing herself up - a plain cloth shirt, a pair of sturdy pants, and heavy boots are what she usually wears, with little regard given to whether they look good on her or with each other. Her clothes are often hidden under her armor anyway; relatively plain steel plate, adorned only with a set scratches and dents that show that it’s seen its fair share of skirmishes.
Born in: Sparathens Story: Alexandra was born into a minor noble family of Sparathens, where she was expected from a young age to enter the nation’s military. Both of her parents had been soldiers, and then officers, before their retirement - thus, their children were expected to follow in their footsteps. Alexandra’s siblings - Vergil, the eldest, and Cassandra, the youngest - and her competed for their parents’ attention and affections, which were only ever hard-won things, given the state of the family.
Shortly after Cassandra was born, their mother succumbed to an illness that never truly went away, leaving her sick and bedridden for most of the childrens’ lives. This put a strain on their parents’ relationship, pushing their father to take on work to keep himself busy and to drink when he had free time. With nowhere else to vent his frustrations, he would take it out on his children; Vergil, and eventually Alexandra, would take turns protecting their siblings when their father fell into one of his fits.
For most of their youth, thus, the Athen children were raised by the few members of staff in their household - and, truthfully, mostly by their combat instructor, a strict, silver-haired woman by the name of Maeve. The children were given basic instruction in all forms of warfare, from tactics and armor to weapons and caring for horses and wyverns.
When Vergil was deemed grown enough to be fighting fit, he was sent from the household to go and receive formal training in order to join the ranks of the country’s military. Their eldest brother being gone meant that the Athen sisters were exposed to further abuse from their father, especially Alexandra herself - she still did her best to protect Cassandra from the worst of it. But the day came where she wasn’t able to do so; her sister eventually stood up to their father and told him that she had no interest in warfare, and that she would not become a soldier the way he wanted to.
Alexandra had been outside when it happened. There was a scream - by the time she’d rushed inside to her father’s study, her sister was being held against the wall by the throat, trying to pry their father’s fingers off of her. From there, most of the events are a blur, and only known to Alexandra by what her sister told her after the fact: She had tackled their father to the ground to get him off of her sister, and then punched him in the face, probably having broken his nose. The sisters stole what they could while their father was knocked out - basic supplies, some armor and weapons, and a wyvern - and took off into the mid-afternoon, never to look back.
They stuck together, for a little while. They fled Sparathens, not caring to look back to find out what sort of fate would have waited for them if they had decided to take their chances with heading home, taking on whatever odd jobs they could to make some money. Alexandra naturally found herself drawn to mercenary work before too long, but Cassandra still had no taste for combat. The sisters separated some four years ago, with Alexandra leaving Cass behind at a town on the Lupercallia side of the Lupercallia-Calirce border in order to continue working with a particular group of mercenaries called the Iron Wolves.
After the Iron Wolves, it was the Traveler’s Company. After the Traveler’s Company, it was the Velker’s Crew, and then the second iteration of the Iron Wolves, although Alexandra is still fairly certain that they hadn’t been fully aware of the prior mercenary company by the same name. After the second Iron Wolves came and went, Alexandra struck out on her own, serving more as a freelancer, using what reputation she’d built for herself to find work with anyone who was interested in hiring a little extra muscle… Though she has more often found work delivering mail and other packages between towns, since a combination of her strength of arm and the wyvern she rides means her deliveries are swift and secure.
