Lewander actually laughed, loudly in fact, at Siric's words. "Skillfully dodging the questions you didn't wish to answer. Why should I continue to educate you, your avoidance makes it plain to see that you already know."
He eyed the wolf as he backed away, finding his simplicity comical. "Surely your wanderings have taught you, magic is not without limits. It doesn't just solve things, it has a price. Binding away her ability to transform didn't 'fix' her. It merely gave her a more dangerous weapon to strike with. Fang and claw are dangerous, but simple. Magic, there is no end to the damage you can do. I wonder...have you ever seen it? Have you ever seen her lose herself in rage and emotion? Not thinking, just acting? Do you have any idea how dangerous a mage with that problem is? She was created imbalanced, and that imbalance has lead to her volatile personality. If she presents a threat to these woods or their people, then I will not hesitate in my duty. The only difference you trying to be a hero will make is one more arrow needed."
It seemed that any pretenses of a pleasant conversation had just been thrown out the window. Lewander remained unarmed, but let his hand slide down along his side, closer to his waist quiver. No sense in being careless.
"And for the record..." He spoke. "I am quite sure she didn't tell you, selective storytelling or lack of younger memories, but she was not ostracized here until she was seen for the crazed monster she was. We judge on experience, not on superstition. What reaction would you expect, injuring two and disfiguring a third? Most would have struck it down then, but we showed mercy to that malformed creature. A decision that seemed to take nine years to be of any payoff."
