"Well, I guess you could say my parents gave it to me... You see... I was found... with it...", Noah said, his voice trailing off, tears starting to well up in his eyes as he spoke about his deepest secret and wish.
Noah thought back to the moment when his parents had told him about his lineage. No, it was not right for him to think of them as his parents anymore... They were his foster parents... They had called for him to his bedroom on his nineteenth birthday and showed him the zither that he had been found along with. The sight of the zither itself had seemed to awaken Noah up completely, as though a part of his life had just been opened up after being closed for so long. It was not that Noah was ungrateful towards his foster parents, it was that he had an unexplainable urge to seek his past.
"No... I have not... It... well... the zither has... something to do with... my past and parents... I don't know who they are... I just want to... find... some place... I... Cause...", Noah finished, flustered and stuttering as he forced himself to state his most inner wishes and thoughts. Noah truly felt out of place in his home. He felt different, like he did not belong and what he really wanted was a place or people he could truly belong in...

OOC: Turn down the melodrama, yikes.
IC:
And then the boy completely broke down in front of her. What a kid. She patted him on the shoulder quickly, and flashed him a smile. "What is blood?" She asked, smoothly and cleanly. She let the sentence hang for a moment before continuing.
"What does something we have no control over matter at all? You know where you were raised, I assume you know who raised you, why does whose blood runs in your veins even matter? They weren't parents to you, you already have parents, am I right?"
For Kazane, people taking despair from their blood was wrong. Why be so concerned over something that didn't even matter at all? "You're an Evlorei, and if you were found with that it means your parents were likely from Yunita Woods. But did they teach you? Did they raise you? Did they care for you?"
She turned from the sobbing boy but turned her head so she was still glancing towards him. "It's your choice to determine what is more important. The people who gave you life, or the people who are your life."

Siric couldn't help but feel a bit lost. Or perhaps ignored. It wasn't something that happened commonly, but it had happened in the past enough for it to be nothing new. He wondered a bit about this evlorei. They seemed to be a very free people. One had come up to give Kazane a compliment on their dance, and now one was showing an instrument to her, and telling her of his past.... Come to think of it, he'd been about ignored both times. Evlorei culture doesn't care about men?... No. It's probably just Kaz attracting the attention. The white haired girl was impressive in many ways. Recently she'd been showing enough spunk to have gotten her noticed by Lord Cid himself. Or so Siric thought.
And the musician broke down. Clearly, he was distraught. A clumsy collection of short words and phrases that meant little and said less forced its way out of his mouth. Kaz seemed to be trying to comfort or help him, but Siric wasn't sure that he agreed with her on all points. He took pride in his blood: in who he was, where he'd come from, and in the strength knowing those things gave him. He could see how without some of that knowledge the value of one's bloodline could become less valued though. Even so, he held his peace.
"So you've come to Opus City looking for news of your family, you play some music, and you decide to ask a small traveling pack of wolves whether they recognize your instrument. I'm tempted to ask why." Except he'd just asked why. He merely hadn't said it quite straight. Siric was curious. Did they really look that knowledgeable to people? Or was there something else?

"Geez, you don't understand..." Milly shook her head. If it was only about dancing she could have gone to the stage with Siric and Kazane. The point was to make this white wolf enjoy the music and forget his vigilance to the Humani in this city. Milly, who was a family person, didn't like doing anything alone, she often dragged Siric and her friend to go with her. "Alright, I give up for now."
"Lets find the other. I wonder where they've gone," she said, pulling Vulvin's arm. In this crowded place she couldn't use her nose to find Siric and Kazane, her ears wouldn't help much as well. All scents and voices were mixed in the air, she had to use her eyes to find them.
Milly was lucky, she found them not long since she started looking for them. Siric carried something in his hands, something like food. As she approached them, she saw a bard that had just performed on the stage talking with her brother and sister. Not noticing the heavy atmosphere surrounding the three people, Milly bolted forward and leapt toward Siric, bringing her arm around his neck. "Hey, you should tell me if you have some foods," she said as she snatched a hot dog. Milly never saw this food, it looked delicious though. After taking a bite, she turned to Siric. "It's tasty. What is it called, Siric?" she asked. The answer would obviously surprise her.

Siric felt a soft arm wrap around his neck and pull on him a bit. Turned his head in surprise, only to find Milly smiling at him, and snapping up one of the hot dogs. He hadn't even gotten to play with her food.... Not even a pun. Ah well. He'd probably end up making himself look foolish if he had engaged in that sort of thing.
"Easy there, Sis." He laughed "You startled me."
He smiled, taking a bite of his own dog, and chewing happily. Milly had jumped right into it. Vulvin still hadn't though.
"It is good, isn't it? I think Vulvin should try a couple as well, while they're still fresh off the fire."
While he did let his attention split, he hardly took his eyes off of the elf. He had just made a comment towards him after all.

Noah grimaced a little as one of the companions of the girl spoke up with a really direct question and a comment about wolves. Why had Noah decided to step up to ask them about his problems anyway? Oh yes! It was because of some weird feeling of familiarity that he had felt in the girl.
"Well... it was because she gave me a weird feeling... of familiarity...", Noah said, addressing the man who had posed the question and gesturing at the girl he had seen from the stage when he said the word 'she'.

Kazane looked to Siric quite surprised. "I'd imagine it's the same feeling you had when we first met. A sense of familiarity but not? Most Evlorei and Beastmen get that feeling about me. It's just something I am...familiar with myself." She said to Siric, before turning back to the bard.
"You feel that way because I am a half elf." She explained. "It's a very common reaction. Something that is familiar, but not quite."
She turned towards her sister and smiled brightly. "Ah, there you are sister!" She said, moving towards her, taking a bite of the hot dog she had in her hand as well. "It's good, right? You'll never guess." She said with a sly smile. This was going to be good, so long as Siric didn't lose his nerve.

Kazane watched the events going on in the square with an amused grin. Milly eating the food, while Siric looked on with his trouble making grin and trying to get Vulvin to eat one. And then this Bard, so unsure and worried it would seem. He was a panicky one...but was she like that when she met Siric? She didn't think she was that bad.
In a moment, her attention was stolen by a merchant off to the side. He was selling something odd...ah! Instruments! She only needed to move a few feet to get a good look at his wares, so she could still hear Siric and the others. She browsed the shelves with a critical eye, looking over these instruments. Flutes, Lyres, miniature drums, all manner of new toys. Like a child in a candy shop, she eyed the music making tools with a sense of joy. Then she saw something odd, something that looked like an anklet...with some odd notches on it? Almost looked like a collar.
"What is this?" She asked, picking up the leather strap. The man sensed her interest and grinned broadly.
[red]"Ah! For a dancer as skilled as you, that would be an excellent accessory! Many dancers wear these bracelets on their arms or legs to add some more flair and style to their dancing. You see..." He said, taking it from her and swinging it through the air. As the air moved through the groves, a whistling sound could be heard. "The way the air moves through it can produce different sounds. A truly skilled dancer such as yourself could produce some expert music with a little practice." He said, clearly flattering her.[/red]
Kazane, however, had heard something that she liked. It used wind to make the sound, did it? Then she was certain she could use it to make excellent music. "Oooh, I'll take these." She said, picking up a pair of them. The cloth was black, with the notches a bright white. She slipped them on immediately, admiring the look of them. She set her gold down on the counter and smiled to the merchant.
[red]"Thank you! Thank you Miss! Please enjoy your purchase."[/red]
Kazane waved to the merchant as she rejoined her companions with a new toy for her to play with.

Siric listened to the young bard explain his reasoning, only to have Kaz take over. He was surprised that she was as open as she was about her heritage now. He'd been planning on playing that fairly low-key, because the white-haired half-wolf had seemed uncomfortable with it before. It was refreshing to see her worries freed up from that issue though. He'd already accepted her after all. Why should the world wait any longer?
"Fine. I'll just tell you." Siric commented after a few moments, as they were still chomping away on their snack.
"Siric's grin widened even more as he leaned in and whispered "hot dogs" into Milly's ears. He backed away, an easy laugh ready to break free at the lunacy of the food's name.
His attention wavered for a moment, traipsing about the plaza and its inhabitants, until it found Kaz again, playing around with some new type of noise maker. As she waved back to the stall keeper, the black wolf's canid ears flicked a bit as he picked up a distinct, yet faint whistling sound. He was willing to bet that he'd be able to hear those wherever they went. Whether they would become distracting was yet to be seen, but he doubted a whistle could beat him.
"What'cha got Kazzy?"

Kaz heard Siric addressing her, and turned with a beaming smile. "It's some kind of new instrument." She explained, letting her arm flow through the air, which produced a melodious arc of sound. "The notches in the band funnel the wind, and make a sound. It's a special instrument dancers use to provide their own melodies." She said, looking over the twin bands. "I figure, with my talents I should be able to get some interesting use out of it." She said, swiping her arm quickly and noting the changing pitch of the whistle. She was having a good amount of fun playing with her new toy. She had her child like moments, just as Siric enjoyed his pranks.
She looked about the square again. More performances were happening, the bard was still tripping over himself verbally, and Milly and Vulvin seemed to be processing Siric's words. This was fun. The last town had been so much trouble, that the peace of Opus City was even more enjoyable then she'd have imagined.
"Wow, this place is fun! Right Siric? You seem a lot more relaxed then you were when we got here! Even Vulvin's a bit calmer!" She beamed up at the taller wolf. Something about the friendly atmosphere in this city was dangerously contagious.

Siric's ears flicked and he cocked his head to the side as the pitch of the devices changed. Something that caused the wind itself to sing. The wolf was wearing an interested smile as he watched and listened. This girl always seemed to be finding something new and interesting to show him. Her childlike enthusiasm towards the city, the people, and her new instruments was like a breath of forest air for the black wolf. Invigorating and fresh.
The shape shifter took a moment, idly whistling, and trying unsuccessfully to match the pitch of Kaz's instruments. So much for that... Ah well. He wasn't the musician here.
Siric laughed at Kaz's obvious enjoyment of the place. "Well, you're right. You won. It's nothing like home, but it's got its charms. That's for sure."
He wrapped an arm around the girl's shoulders, and pulled her in tight for a moment before releasing her and turning back to the rest.
"We should get back to business though, hey? I'd like to go and meet some of the beastmen of this city. And we're supposed to be back for the evening to meet that... what'shis'name that came up to you after the dance, remember Kaz?"

Kazane was over the moon with happiness at Siric's response. Everyone was relaxed and having a good time, and that was what was important. She was about to turn around and glance back at Milly when she felt an arm grab her. Her gaze snapped forward and she saw a chest coming up to greet her as she pressed into the dark vest for a moment. Time seemed to freeze as the arm held her close for a moment...
His scent was strong here...his body was warm...she could heard the beating of his heart...and her face darkened to a deep scarlet as he released her. He took his eyes off of her for a moment, giving her time to half turn to hide the shade of her cheeks from him when he looked back to address her.
"R-Right! Of course, we still have some w-work to do!" She said, trying to regain her composure. "So, he said on the eastern side of town." She said, looking around at any direction except back towards her companions. Thankfully, she spied a crossroads compass sign on the street corner, and made out the directions. "Ah, it should be that way." She said, pointing off to her left. "Well then, you ready to go find some kindred spirits?"

Noah watched as the girl went up to an instrument store, the one where Noah had purchased his new flute from. She seemed interested in a chiming instrument, an anklet that she could strap on herself and make music with by dancing. It was definitely an instrument that would suit the girl really well, given how good a dancer she was.
As Noah watched the girl make her purchase, a thought came into his mind. It was that Noah would follow the girl wherever she went in the hopes that being with the girl's company would lead to Noah finding out or meeting someone that would enable Noah to find out more about his heritage.
Noah stealthily went back to where his belongings were kept. There was not much belongings that Noah had. Only two bags of stuff. One contained all of his instruments, that he had bought and collected while on his journey, while the other contained food supplies and other necessities. Noah placed his precious zither back into the bag that contained all of his instruments. His zither was perhaps his most priced instrument of all that he owned.
Noah paused for just a moment, remembering the feeling he had when he had touched the zither for the first time. Touching the zither had brought on a feeling of completion to Noah. As if the zither had belonged within Noah. Noah had not played a song on the zither yet. Noah was afraid... afraid of the zither that had been his only link to his heritage. Afraid that playing the zither would increase his longing to belong, increase it to the point of breaking.
Shaking these thoughts from his head, Noah slung his bag of essentials behind him and picked up his instrument bag in his right hand, before making his way swiftly back to where the girl and her companion were in a conversation.
"We should get back to business though, hey? I'd like to go and meet some of the beastmen of this city. And we're supposed to be back for the evening to meet that... what'shis'name that came up to you after the dance, remember Kaz?", the girl's companion said, as the girl replied, "R-Right! Of course, we still have some w-work to do! So, he said on the eastern side of town. Ah, it should be that way. Well then, you ready to go find some kindred spirits?"
Taking his chance, Noah jumped in on their conversation, "Umm... may I join in with you guys, I sort of owe those beastmen a song or two too..."
Well, Noah did not really owe those beastmen that song, but he did tell some of the beastmen in the eastern side of Opus that he would be performing for them soon. This would be a good chance to jump in with the girl's company as well as to fulfill his promise at the same time.

Vulvin just rolled his eyes as Milly said he didn't understand. Maybe she didn't understand it was just they way he was and making him change would take much longer. As she dragged him along, Vulvin felt as if they had forgotten why they were hear seeing as they hadn't really done anything.
The food that Siric had did smell good but Vulvin wasn't sure what it was so he didn't go for it. After hearing Milly saying it was good he wanted to try some but Siric seemed to have started speaking with Kazane. They smelt really good and it had been a while since Vulvin tried something he had never eaten before.
He followed behind Siric, Kazane and the new man keeping a careful eye on the bard. He didn't trust him but Vulvin didn't trust a lot of people.
"Hey Siric," Vulvin said quietly as he approached the older wolf. "Still got any of that food left? It seems good I want to try it," He asked. The white wolf smiled a bit when he heard Siric suggesting that they got a move onto what they were really here for.

"East...." Siric mumbled under his breath once Kaz recalled it to mind. He looked up at the sun, but it was roughly straight overhead. Instead, he thought back, remembering the angles of the shadows as they'd entered Opus City, and where they'd been heading. Kaz pointed out the right direction before he remembered what he needed though.
"Kindred spirits? I hope so. From the sounds of things, this will be the largest concentration of beastmen in all of our travels so far. It's hard to imagine it otherwise, in fact...."
When Vulvin came up asking about the food, it took a moment before Siric remembered the bag he was holding. He wasn't tempted to shove the last sausage in his mouth and gloat at Vulvin at all. Really! He wasn't!
"Here you go Vulvin. Enjoy. But don't eat the bag. Takes hours to work out of your teeth." The black wolf said offhandedly as he tossed the bag to the younger warrior. If you were trying to tell by the smile on his face, it'd be impossible to distinguish whether he was being serious or not.
He'd just turned to head to the east side of town when another voice spoke up. It was the bard child from earlier. The elf. He wanted to join in with them? Siric didn't see that he could do any harm, but on his reviewal of the thought, he did notice something. If things did go awry, as he generally tried to be prepared for, then this traveler could be caught up in their mess. What if the city guard thought they were trying to start a riot here? Or just didn't like them?
"I'm not sure that's a good idea, kid. See, I'm here trying to gather military support for a place called Strayhaven. It's in Calirce. I don't expect most people know of it yet, but that's not important." The people will know soon enough. He thought to himself as he spoke.
"Honestly, I'm really not sure how the people who run the show around here will like us. So it could be bad for you, if you're with us, if they're bad for us. You following?" Siric, despite the odd tempo of his words, seemed to carry himself with straightforwardness and even a bit of concern for this stranger. Civilians and outsiders were not his concern, but that didn't mean they were outside of his sphere of responsibility.
"I suppose I could tell you more though. Bards like great tales, right? And the story of Strayhaven is finally beginning to unfold."
